Tim Goodman’s blog had an interesting article about the CW’s presentation at the Television Critics Press Tour, to wit:

” ‘Gilmore Girls’ is on this planet for one thing only – to drive viewers to the better show, ‘Veronica Mars.’ More people watch ‘Gilmore Girls’ than ‘Veronica Mars’ so this is sound programming sense. But the cold hard facts are that ‘Gilmore Girls’ hasn’t been very good for – being generous here – two
seasons, the stars desperately want off the show (which they will be granted after the season) and the only reason Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel came YET AGAIN to another press tour is because the people who created the show in the first place and then ruined it are now gone, and the stars want to give new executive producer David Rosenthal a chance, despite his
    somewhat kooky and worrisome past.”

…at which point Goodman links to this Defamer article:

    Anyway, Goodman continues:

“Their session here was dismal. Graham couldn’t hide her distaste for twists and turns her character has taken recently, though she fiercely defended Amy Sherman-Palladino, the
creator and writer whose artistic control of the series faltered so badly late in the game and who led Graham’s character down a
crooked path of false behavior. Bledel’s disinterested approach to the proceedings reaffirmed long-held critical beliefs
that her best personality trait is one someone else writes for her. Rosenthal? He did little to disprove the notion that he’s been hired to steer the series away from the cliff it’s
approaching and into one of those freeway dividers filled with sand, which will contain as much damage as possible so that the show will finish the season and continue to funnel viewers to ‘ Veronica Mars.’ ”

Honestly, it was that bad. In summation: Two actresses who looked like they were trapped, one producer hired to put a tourniquet on a horse’s head he found in his bed and a network
that knows the end is near but would really love the haggard old veteran to help the spritely new kid.”

Oh, and Bill Goodykoontz from the Arizona Republic also talked about the GG session here:

He has a great photo of Graham, Bledel, and Rosenthal on his page.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Rosenthal controversy. Most of the critics reported it.

Also, the National Ledger confirmed that Bledel and Milo Ventimiglia have broken up, and that Jess won’t return to the show this season:

One last post, and I’ll leave you in peace. Lauren Graham’s perspective on playing Lorelei last season:

    July 19th, 2006 12:22

I am so excited for gilmore girls to start up again! I just read that there will be a baby on gilmore girls this season!!

“At some point [this season], there will be a baby on Gilmore Girls,” Rosenthal told TV.com.

I really hope that it is Luke and Lorelai’s. As much as I would love to see Logan and Rory have a baby I don’t think that either of them are ready for that yet. I really hope that it is not Christopher’s. That would just cause more drama and we all know that Luke and Lorelai should end up together. One more thing, I hope that the baby that they are talking about is not Liz’s!!!

Just thought I’d let you know!!

Hm..that is all VERY interesting! Thanks for sharing.

Also, I feel that the last 2 seasons of GG weren’t that bad, or was I just blinded by love for past GG seasons?

I agree that the last 2 seasons weren’t THAT bad, but they were dfineftly not the show that i fell in love with in the beginning…..I think the really change was when Rory went to college, probably because they just didnt see each other as much. (What would have happened to this show if cell phones hadnt been invented??) 🙂

I’m super excited for the new season! I think all this stuff about them saying the last 2 seasons weren’t great is crap and it doesn’t really matter whats going on behind the set, I am just excited for the show.
